The Grinch Didn't Steal Our Christmas

One of our favorite Christmas movies is the cartoon classic version of Dr. Seuss' "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas."  Pops introduced Avery to this favorite last year and they watched it together several times.  But when Christmas was over, away went the movie and Pops' Grinch shirt -- until next year.
So this year as soon as Avery saw the commercial, she remembered that Pops has a Grinch shirt hanging in his closet and she was ready to see it again.  I said, "Maybe we should have a Grinch party one night."  And she said, "Let's have a sleepover Grinch party, Grammy!"  Well, no need to twist my arm -- any excuse for a sleepover works for me.  I asked what we should have at our Grinch party and she said, "Chocolate cupcakes with Grinch frosting, candy and popcorn."  There you have it -- party planned! I also decided this would be a good time for us to give them their new Christmas jammies and their special ornament for this year.
I looked everywhere I went for some Grinch gift bags, but found none and finally settled on some simple green bags with handles from Walmart for $.50 each.  Just before the girls arrived for the party, I got the gift bags out to put in their jammies and ornaments - as well as the little santa hats I had bought them.  Well, when I went to put the santa hat inside the bag, I noticed that it would actually fit right over the top of that bag.  And once I had that in place, I thought, 'Wow, these would really look cute with a grinch face on the bag.'  So I quickly grabbed a black sharpie and scribbled on some Grinch faces.  By now, I was racing the clock because the girls would be here any minute.  I found a yellow paint pen in my craft drawer to fill in their eyes -- and voila -- Grinch giftbags!  I was pretty pleased with them -- especially considering that I didn't plan this at all, it was just one of those creative moments :)

Inside the bags were their ornaments and Grinch jammies.   Avery got a 'Hello Kitty' ornament and Kinsley got Minnie Mouse - their personal favorites these days.
I found these little shirts at Old Navy -- put them with leggings and called them jammies.
Here's our Grinch cupcakes.  I mistakenly thought I had some miniature M&Ms in my pantry - instead, they were regular sized, so they don't really look too much like the Grinch, but the girls loved them.  I personally liked the plain green ones better.  (I made the santa hats out of candy melts.)

We had a fun time -- and I think our Grinch Sleepover Party could become a tradition.
