The Honeymoon

After the wedding, I took a week of vacation so that I could keep the girls while Andrew and Jaclyn honeymooned in Belize.  We left Bass Lake on Monday and got back to Bakersfield around 2:30.  Our travel trailer was sitting in front of our house, waiting for us -- so we quickly threw in everything we needed and Wonderful Husband headed off to Carpinteria.  I was planning to follow right behind in my car with the grandbabies, but after our drive home from Bass Lake, I knew that if I put Kinsley back in the car at that point for another 2.5 hours, it would be a disaster.  So we played and had dinner, then we headed over to the beach, too.  Needless to say, Monday was a looooong day. 
Pops stayed night with us at the beach on Monday night, then left at 5:30 in the morning on Tuesday for school in L.A.  After school he came back to Bakersfield to work on Wednesday, then headed back to L.A. for school on Thursday and joined us at the beach again after class on Thursday evening. 
I'll have to admit that our little Kinsley is such a pistol that I was a little apprehensive about having both girls all by myself in the trailer at the beach -- but our week went great and we had a blast.  They slept well, ate well and we played a lot. 

The girls adapted very well to life in an RV - and especially liked bathtime in the "little tub".

On Tuesday morning, we walked to this little play area in Carpinteria -- just outside the State Park.  It's really geared toward toddlers and preschoolers, so it was the perfect place for them to play.  They both loved it and Avery immediately said, "Can we come here every day?"  And yes, we went there every morning after breakfast and played for a few hours.  Then we'd go back to the trailer for lunch and naps before heading out to the beach to play in the sand and in the ocean.

On Wednesday, my friend Cindy drove over to spend the day with us and we went to the Santa Barbara Zoo.   Avery was especially looking forward to seeing the giraffes -- so when we got there and saw that for a mere $6 you could feed the giraffes six leafs of lettuce -- well, you know this Grammy had to do it; and not only once, but twice!  Definitely a highlight of the trip. 

 

The other highlight of the zoo was this little hill in the kids play area.  They played here for at least an hour -- running up that hill and sliding down on cardboard just didn't get old.

 

  

After a fun day at the zoo, the girls took naps, then we headed out for the beach to play and go to the tidepools, where we watched some boys play with an octopus. 
Kinsley was a crazy little thing in the ocean!  I had to hold on with two hands because she was just wild.  I wanted so badly to take pictures and video, but knew it couldn't happen until Pops was there to help.  So even though it was almost evening time when he got there on Thursday, we went back out to play some more so that I could capture some video of her loving the ocean...

 

We came home on Friday and the girls' Mimi (Jaclyn's mom) picked them up Friday night and kept them until Andrew and Jaclyn returned on Tuesday.
So that's how we spent the honeymoon!  Definitely not a very restful vacation for me, but I wouldn't have had it any other way.  What a treat to get to spend a week with my grandbabies!!  By the time I got back to work the following Monday, I was already missing those babies like crazy and couldn't wait to see them again.
