More About Huntington Lake -- My Favorite Things

These are my favorite things about Huntington Lake -- in no particular order...

FAVORITE: FAMILY TIME
(okay, I said in no particular order, but this would be #1)
Yes, that's Layne up there on top of that tree.

Boys will be boys!
They had a target -- Andrew's friend was out in the lake in a kayak!

Avery loved playing in the sand!

FAVORITE: PLAYING GAMES
Dominoes, Yahtzee, Phase 10 -- doesn't matter, I love game time!

FAVORITE: COOKING OUTDOORS
I absolutely LOVE to cook outdoors when we go camping. I love the smell of breakfast cooking in the morning. This year I discovered something new -- dehydrated hash browns. They were great! They come in a pint-sized milk carton -- you add water and let set for 10 minutes -- then pour onto the grill. They were a hit with everyone -- I will definitely buy them again!
This was another new adventure for me this year -- I bought a cast iron dutch oven. This was my first try with it -- Cherry Cobbler. You dump all the ingredients into the pot, put the lid on and set the pot into the charcoal -- 40 minutes later, voila -- DELICIOUS!
It was called cobbler, but it was actually yellow cake over cherry pie filling -- served with some cool whip on top! So good we had leftovers the next night -- yum!
I had planned to try another recipe later in the week in my new dutch oven, but by popular demand, we did a repeat of the Cherry Cobbler. Next year, I'm going to get crazy with it!

FAVORITE: THE TRAILER
It may be old (the trailer, that is), but I still love it and was very thankful to be sleeping in a trailer while it poured rain all through the night!

On my wish list -- a new(er) trailer
FAVORITE: THE BOAT
The boat is even older than the trailer, but what good memories it has made for us. If you look closely at the dashboard, that's a picture of J.C. -- the boat's original Captain (Danny's Dad). Every time we use the boat we are reminded of the good times we had fishing with him. May sound crazy -- but the boat is very sentimental to my husband -- something he cherishes simply because of the memories it holds. His dad bought the boat when he was born -- and here we are, enjoying Avery's first fishing trip 50 years later.

Too cute!

Avery likes to get up around 6am. On this morning, Daddy and Pops took her down to the boat so that the rest of us could sleep in.

FAVORITE: SHORT, EASY HIKES!

We took a very easy hike to these Indian tide pools. Layne and Susan took this opportunity to bathe and wash their hair. You have to be quick -- the water is COLD! Pretty cool shot, huh?
I accidentally set my camera to black & white (that's what happens when you don't wear your glasses!) At first I was really bummed, but then I played with my photo editing software and did some coloration of these black & white shots. I kinda like the results -- I need to practice a little more.

Caryn and me. (Hikes would not be on her list of favorite things about Huntington Lake!)

On our way back to camp
Those are my favorite things about Huntington Lake. Ah, good times! Hopefully, Mikey will be able to join us next year! (He had to stay home and work.)

I like the black and white photos. They look professional. Avery is so cute and looks like she had a great time. I'm sure this is going to be a tradition she'll want to keep for a lifetime. Gail
