A Week at the Beach

I was right -- my week at the beach went by waaaaaay too fast!  It's hard to believe I've already been back to work for a full week since my little getaway.

The first few days were cold and rainy, and the Husband was busy studying for his big test, so boy was I glad to have my sewing machine along!  So here's what I did during those cold and rainy days at the beach...

Day 1 -- My nephew Jason and his wife Kay were expecting Baby Girl Sprayberry within a few days, so I finished up a few little things I had been working on for them.  I got the package off in the mail on Tuesday morning -- and Eden Khaykham Sprayberry was born on Friday morning.  This baby girl has been prayed for, hoped for and waited for for many years, so we are very excited she's finally here! They live in Maryland, so we are anxious for them to visit at Christmas!

Day 2 -- The day started early, as Danny had to leave at 5:30am to go to school.  The weather was nice enough for me to go for a walk on the beach in the morning, but then it turned cold and rainy again.  So I made a new pillowcase for Avery, this time it was "Nemo".  This is her first Disney movie and she is hooked.  And she loved her new pillow.
I also worked on some Christmas gifts on Day 2, but I can't say any more or it might spoil the surprise for someone.  But let me just say that they are so cute I can hardly stand it!

Day 3 -- well, this is where Husband and Daughter both suggested that maybe I had spent too much time alone in the trailer.  I'm not really sure how it happened, but these little guys just sort of multiplied and before I knew it, my nice comfy trailer was feeling a little cramped.

When all was said and done, I think I ended up with 23 pumpkins.  I stopped short of naming them, but if I had, I'm sure one of them would have been "Wilson".   I have pumpkins everywhere -- family room, kitchen, dining room, desk at work -- and even shared some.  I love fall -- love pumpkins -- love the colors -- can't wait for the Liquid Amber leaves to cover my back yard!

On Day 4, Layne arrived.  The weather cleared and we hit the beach!  It was beautiful!  We read, walked, talked and just had some good girl time.  This October beach trip started 3 years ago as a way for Layne to get away and retreat from life when she should have been celebrating her second wedding anniversary.  Painful times!  Last year was better, still very painful.  And this year -- yes, still painful, but it was also a time to reflect on how great our God has been in the healing process.

On Day 5, our slow pace came to an end the minute Avery (and Andrew & Jaclyn) arrived.  This Grammy (or 'Dammy' as Ave says) considers this beach trip a 100% success -- because Little Miss Priss, who didn't like the sand and hated the water last time she went to the beach, was converted to a little beach bum whose first words out of her mouth in the morning (after "I want to watch Nemo") were "Dammy, let's go to the beach!"

I mean, really, is this not what you picture when you think 'beach bum'?  Doesn't every beach bum wear their tutu to the beach?

This is Ave's new smile.  When we tell her to smile or to say "Cheese", here's what we get...

And then when we laugh, it cracks her up...

Michael joined us on Friday night and Danny returned on Saturday night.  We packed up on Sunday and stopped in Ventura for lunch on our way home.  It was a great week!
