Avery is being raised bilingual -- her second language is sign language. Jaclyn signs everything to her and she has quite the "sign" vocabulary already.

While on vacation, one evening we were fishing off of the lakeshore and Avery was there playing. There was a trash can that was just her height and she kept wanting to investigate the trash inside. Over and over we took turns going to retrieve her from the trash can and we'd say, "No, yuk, trash, dirty..." Well, soon it became a little game of defiance for her. She'd walk over to the trash can and then just look at her mommy, knowing she shouldn't be there. So this time, Jaclyn tightened her lips and without saying a word, she used very defined hand motions to sign all those same things to Avery. Avery stared at her for a moment, as if taking it all in, and then she tightened her own little lips and did her own very defined series of hand motions back to her mommy (she made up her own motions - it was jibberish). After a flash second of shock, we all cracked up. Oh, she's a little pistol! (We'll try to hide our laughter next time -- but she just caught us completely off guard with this one!)
Come quick, weekend -- I need to see my little Ave!

Avery really does take after Andrew. And I love her learning to sign. How cute is that!
