In the early 80's, we found a woman who made the best waterbed sheets available -- she used 200-threadcount cotton and the sheets had big pockets on the corners so they didn't slip off the mattress. It didn't bother us at all that we had to drive to the Orange County Swap Meet every time we needed new sheets, the drive was well worth it. But by the late 90's, "Deb" was no longer at the swap meet; apparently, the waterbed sheet business was no longer lucrative.
So then we were left to what was available at JC Penney. JC Penney brought about the PVC pipes for waterbed sheets. They had nifty little elastic bands on each corner -- you slipped the piece of pipe through the elastic band and then wrestled the pipe under the corner of the mattress. They worked pretty good and JC Penney also offered 200-threadcount sheets.
But last time I went shopping for waterbed sheets, JC Penney no longer offered the cotton variety -- they had narrowed their selection down to percale -- in ugly colors. So I ended up ordering some sheets from some other waterbed site and we have been miserable ever since. They had the PVC pipes on the corners, but the top sheet was not wide enough -- it barely reached each side -- which meant that if we both wanted to be covered by the top sheet, we had to sleep in the center of the bed -- NOT!
A few weeks ago, I decided I had had enough of these stupid sheets, so I went on the hunt again. What I found was promising -- so I placed my order. The sheets arrived this week -- they look wonderful! I washed them, put them on our bed and it almost seemed too good to be true -- REAL sheets for our WATERBED!
Well, we slept on our new sheets for the first time last night and they get a 10 from me -- feel great, plenty of overlap on both sides and no lifting from the corners! So if there's anyone else out there (besides Doug & Cindy) still sleeping in your 70's waterbed and you're looking for some nice sheets -- I've found the answer! No PVC pipes -- bottom sheet is NOT attached to the top sheet -- nice deep pockets for the corners -- ahh...... Check them out... I love them! Great waterbed sheets!

I SO know what you are talking about. I remember those days very well! I'm glad you found something that works...now buy lots of extras because you'll probably never find them again!!!
Love the blog, love the pictures!

I share in your excitement! I just recently bought new sheets on-line and it was such a treat to have something so simple as WB sheets not aggravate the heck out of you! It is so much nicer to sleep without it falling apart. I thought maybe I would be more apt to make the bed more regularly but nah! I justify my laziness with the excuse that Doug sleeps all day and I'm in it at night (when I get my fanny off the couch) Enjoy!
