Short but Sweet

Avery came for a sleepover last night. Andrew and Jax were invited to a Graduation Party for a friend last night, so they came into town just in time for the party and left Avery with us. We usually do a really good job of sticking to her schedule and making sure she is in bed close to her usual bedtime, but since we only had her for a few waking hours this time, we pretty much ignored the routine.
We got her at about 7:15 last night and started by making a "quick trip" to Sonic for an ice cream. But when we drove in she saw the toys in the playground and let out a joyful shreek from the back seat -- so what were a Grammy & Pops to do? Yep, we got out and played -- for an hour. Then we came home and even though it was already a half an hour past normal bedtime, Avery wanted to "shwim" -- so what were a Grammy & Pops to do? Yep, we put on our suits and went shwimming in the spa. While we were in the spa, we spotted a few frogs in the pond. So Pops got out and caught one in order to give Ave a close-up view. She loved it! She would put her face right up to the frog like she was going to kiss it and then get the willies and scream at the top of her lungs and do a little dance -- the kind we girls do when we get creeped out. Pretty funny!

I can hardly wait to hear Layne's reaction to these pictures -- she can hardly bring herself to even say the word "frog" because they creep her out so much.

After some milk and a story from Pops, she went right to bed and I think she was sleeping within just a minute or two.  And despite her late-hour fun last night, she was still up before the birds this morning :)

It was a short visit -- but sweet -- and we love every visit we get with our little Ave.

So cute! : ) We had a frog adventure this week too... such funny little creatures! : ) Funny that Layne dislikes them so much! I bet her brothers took advantage of that whenever they could...

Grandparents are supposed to ruin routines! Glad you had such a great time with sweet Avery!

Grandparents have to take whatever moments we can get! Her look at the frog is priceless!
