SOAR Utah Mission Trip 2012 - Days 4 and 5

We left Big Canyon Ranch yesterday morning and headed down the mountain to attend church services at Shadow Mountain Church in West Jordan, Utah. Cory Andersen is the pastor there and he was one of the speakers while we were at the ranch.
After church we had a quick lunch then went to a sacrament service at a Morman church in Draper - a way for us to learn more about the Morman religion. We then met all the other SOAR teams at the park to talk about our experience.
On Sunday evening all teams met at South Mountain Community Church for dinner and worship. This is where our team will be serving for the next week.
SMCC has just moved into their new facility which is pretty awesome - so after a tour of the building we headed for our host home.
Our entire team (13 of us) are all at the same home - in the basement, which is really a home beneath the home - and we are lacking for nothing! On most missions trips we expect to go without the normal comforts of our everyday life, but that has not been the case this time.
Today we spent the morning prepping for the kids camp we will be running at SMCC. Then after lunch we went to Salt Lake City and spent the afternoon touring the Morman Convention Center and Temple Square.
We've had lots of rain and cool weather - which none of us packed for. We got poured on this afternoon and had to run through pouring rain for about 4 blocks to our van -- good times!
Our schedule has been packed and we are tired - but it's all good. I'm not writing details about any of our activities because the kids will give a full report next Wednesday night.

I've been following your adventures and am enjoying it very much. I Googled SOAR and found a camp org for ADHD kids, is it the same one?

Hi Aunt LN - the camp we are doing is not for ADHD kids and I don't think there's any association between the one you're talking about and the SOAR trip we are on. The purpose of our trip is to introduce a new/different field of mission work to our kids. Here in Utah there is a huge ministry to reach Mormans with the true gospel. So we are working with this church to see and experience what that ministry looks like.
